Help to hospital

0 Comments | Huntingdon Town Crier (St. Neots, England), April 8, 2008

Volunteers are urgently needed to help and give people an occasional lift to Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

Thanks to the efforts of the Huntingdon, Ramsey, St Ives and St Neots Volunteer Bureaux car schemes, plus Hinchingbrooke Hospital Trust and Cambridgeshire County Council, the Volunteer Bureaux is looking to expand its car services to provide transport to local hospitals.

The scheme is aimed at helping people who have difficulty using public transport or have no other means of transport to get to Hinchingbrooke or other local hospitals for outpatient, clinic or other medical appointments.

The four market town-based schemes have already help people to get to their local GP surgery, dentist, optician, to pick up a prescription, visit relatives or friends, connect with a bus or train, or even just to go to the local shop or post office.

Anyone with an hour or two to spare is asked to contact their nearest Volunteer Bureaux in Huntingdonshire.

Volunteer drivers need to use their own vehicles, for which a mileage allowance is available through the county council, as well as additional insurance cover.

Office volunteers are also required to manage the day to day running of the scheme.
